in US we celebrated "memorial day weekend" last weekend. in the past i would do my best to get out of New York, but this year ... well with Edith & many friends, we got invited to 4 barbecues ... 
what you see here is ... party with crazy musicians on 116 st (on of Edith's friends just got a nice roof top place there). what a night it was ... wine, cheese, bread, olives, etc, etc then music more wine .... it was fun! next day was difficult though .... i realized we must have went through 10 bottles of wine between 8 of us ... & I probably helped with at lest 3 of those 
yeah .... it took me a better part of the next day to recover

as i've said to dave today over lunch - "i can't really complain about anything ... my life is good" - "our worries are so insignificant if you compare it with the problems other people have in the world" - watch the concert on msn! (got to use f*ucken IE ...  ) |
i'm so lucky ... so i get an e from dave on tue, that he has 2 tix for Gorillaz for tonite. i jump on it, 'cause i've looked for their concert when they came out with the new album (demon days) & didn't see US on their schedule 'till June ... meet daVe for lunch to get the tix / have a crazy day @ work - no time to breath ... try to send an e to all my friends who'd want the 2nd ticket ... no one can. at about 5 i post it on craig's list. As i'm on the train worried that i won't be able to sell it i get a call from a stranger, named peter & we agree to meet - i sold the 2nd ticket!
got home, had a dance with white widow, got the car & went. as i'm tying to find apollo thater, i make a right onto 126th st & ... accidentally find the back stage of the apollo & .... there's a parking _right there_. wait for peter for couple of minutes - he's a small guy with gray hair in his ... 40s? looks a bit gay, but as we talk he mentions girlfriend - ends up being a accountant for sony ... we actually have a decent conversation as we're waiting for the band to come out (no opening band). we both agree that only in new york one can decide to go to see gorillaz @ 7pm, find tickets on craig's list & meet a total stranger at the concert @ 8 ...
T H E SPECTACLE ... wow, i'm still under influence of this amazing show of music, talent, lights, culture and anti-culture. they start it with duffy duck cartoon & after the initial 10 seconds you start to wonder, why you're at a concert, but enjoy this so much as does everyone around u ... oh wait - there's was an advertisement of motorolla before that ... one of the gorillaz' characters playing naked, some german music on a piano & answering his ... motorolla - "can't talk right now ... i'm naked" - cute.
apollo theater is also a big part of new york's history. i've only seen apollo on tv when i watched amateur night in my younger days. but in person you can feel the history - yes it feels old and beat up, but also cosy, great acoustics & it's very well organized!
then the curtain goes up & you see: 11 strings, 3 cellos, 3 guitars, 2 percussionists, dj & main guy on a piano. then ... we notice dennis hopper - "i hope he does the monkey mountain" (he does - to the crow going wild). then kids choir comes out (both choirs look local, probably from harlem - great culture touch) - the crowd screams & goes wild, kids sing & dance - wow. some rapping happens, de la soul comes out - great duet of ... this cute, black back-up singer (might be british, but then again all performers, except for main guy look local) & the fat guy from the dare video (well it might not be him, but he does a great job at "singing drunk" - wobbling - & trying to get a grove-on with the black girl .

i'm really starting to like Chicago

... not that i'd want to live here ... but after this ... 5th or 6th trip, i must admit that it has it's charms and it makes me look at NY in a different light ...
so this time around chicago sinfonietta had ... a NIU steel band in it's program! They basicaly mixed classical orchestra with a steel band - wow - brought some memories ... the steel band is impressive too - only non Trinidadian band (all yankees & like 2 trini people in the band) to win 2nd place in 2000 world steel band festival in TT .... it's nice to see someone else take the love for the carribean culture take it to another lever & Robert Chappell (no not David ) took it to another level with his Wood-n-Steel compilation.
We also did a bit of sigh-seeing and as much as I'm against organized religions ... Baha'i temple ... impressed me quite a bit ... not only the architecture of this building is definitely not american ... the entire concrete structure is bonded with those little stones ... quite amazing to see this up close and in person ... of course a clear blue sky and the moon made it so much more enjoyable.

wow - F***en amazing weekend! best weekend so far in Killington (even though, I got "fired")
* as we arrived to the house on Friday, we discovered that some "fire fairy" must have landed there before us, 'cause BOTH fire places were lit! other then that the house seemed empty ... only after i discovered a mysterious "can of nuts" & not finding nuts inside ... it occurred to me that no way in hell someone would leave this behind ... minutes later, Derek arrived & explained to us how his boredom "made" him fire it all up. thx dude.
* after enjoying the goods from the mysterious "can of nuts", Heather's speech seems so impaired that I ask Grace for English translation to what she just said. After 10 minutes of laughter, Grace finally explains "she said 'keep stolen'" (referring to Grace's board getting stolen couple weeks ago) - which then became a "keep stoned" catch fraze for the rest of the weekend for poor Heather
* holy s**t .... i "forgot" to mention that during all of this the snow has been quietly falling outside ... and to our joy it only seemed to fall harder when we got up in the morning .... throughout the whole day it just would not stop.
* ohh yeah - i got "fired" sat morning, but this was the best professional "punishment" i've ever received ... those 2 days have been by far the best days on the snow this season
* as most of the house tries to get into the house through the frozen lock (& David loses his phone) - me, Steven & Linda are being "supportive" by eating hot wings at Charities (where I loose all of my head/hand winter gear ... seriously if anyone sees black gloves with yellow on them ...)
* now the hot tub that evening ... was definitely hotter then hot ... well, if david does says "i like to smack a hairy ass every now & then" again .... especially when it comes to my ass .... we'll change his nick name to something more gay (& by gay I mean ... gay) ... but what we really enjoyed was the attire of few fellow hot-tubbers - as ana eloquently put it "as as woman, i have to complement you on your beautiful body"
* sunday welcomes us with a gorgeous sunny day & ... at least foot of fresh m******* snow - imagine 12 year old kids seeing the snow for the 1st time in their life ... that was us (ohh yeah, i had to "jump start" my brain that morning - must of been because of that damn "can of nuts" again)
