history of central park
|
|
Went to this free Dairy tour of the Central Park / New York. Very interesting ... for example the Dairy actualy gave out milk in 1800s ... to mothers that had a hard time getting clean and pure milk for their children in those days.
I love the shot of the kid. All the other kids were running around this Big Band "concert", but not this one ... he was so mesmorized .... as if he hear music for the first time in his life.

Plan & Sixth Biennial galleries
|
|
so I saw a Polish name in the newspaper under "new galleries" & decided to emaducate myself ... Although my Polish culture is very rich to me, very little is known about it here in the States. Even more so when i comes to the contemporary art, so it's always a pleasure to read - "Plan is one of the most significant contemporary art projects to emerge from Poland."
wow, what a suprise!!! I loved "Plan: exhibition by Aneta Grzeszykowska & Jan Smaga" in New York's Robert Mann Gallery. Highely detailed photos of the appartments in Warsaw from the "top view" (ala. Sims). Incedible how much culture one can get by looking at an appartment. I imediately recognized a "Polish bathroom", sooo diferent from any other bathroom in the world ...
But I think the "garden" made a bigger impression on me ...
I was so mesmorized that I took 1 picture! 0) - after 4 - 5 glasses of wine, I went to this other gallery next door - Sixth Biennial. There I took plenty of photos ... so I won't take any credit for them (so don't sue me mmm k aaa y ? - I'll put up credits as soon as I find the damn paper notes)

privacy
|
|
(I've been sharing this thought with my friends lately.) Today's kids have learned to not have their privacy any longer. They might not view it in such clear, drastic point of view, but ... they share their lives with the world via blogs, emails, photos on the Internet, cell phones, cameras (both the once we own & the once that are everywhere on the streets that monitor what we do ...). Most of our everyday communication is shared somewhere, somehow by someone .... those same kids have learned just to accept it as the cool, norm of today. I have personally have been a bit of an exhibitionist for a while now .... but even though I choose to share my life with the world for it to see I still decide not to share some things ... I still keep some things private - I guess in the way, it's a natural "human" safety net we all build around ourselves and as long as we believe it exists ... we keep our sense of security. But it's a false sense of security that in the very near future won't have any longer. I just realized that with the "greatest" communication tool that Internet is, in the near future anyone (with a little inside knowledge) will be able to find our almost anything about another ... down to their spending rabbits. Scary? Not necessary, although we don't realize it, we have already learned to share what used to be private with the rest of the world. Yes, there are few (my good friend "mr. anderson comes to mind), who are really conscious of their steps in the digital world that we live in & question anything that they see as the "invasion" of their privacy. But literally there are very few around me that go through extra steps and are aware and conscious about it .... I think we are witnessing a new chapter in human history, "the sharing revolution"

- super snow dump today ... a nice present from snow gods to .... one of our PAST president's (maybe) ...
RECAP - So, I was able to hook up with Steph & her friend Kim for the ride up. As we are having a good â??girlyâ?? talk about relationships, 30-somehitng life in one of the stories Kim mentions â??back then I had my itchy prangler â?¦.â?? â?? the story continues, but Iâ??m thinking to myself â??what the hell is itchy pranglerâ?? ??? & I ask her about it â?? to which she hysterically starts laughing â?¦ and finally tells me crying â?? â??I said Jeep Wranglerâ??. For some reason there and then I knew this is going to be a good weekend (although wasnâ??t sure exactly why).
Work wise, in the morning I donâ??t get picked up & end up with my partners in crime at Coops (yes again) â?¦ thatâ??s like 11 am â?¦. so my afternoon lesson is a bit â?¦ interesting, I take my 2nd day group on the toughest green trail on the mountain & â?¦ kill them (well this 1 guy anyways) â?? thatâ??s 4 more â??happyâ?? students to my mix (thatâ??s 54 already â?¦ + or - wow). Well, to be honest I must say that the girls in my class were doing very well & it was this one middle-aged man that â?¦ I guess didnâ??t appreciate getting his ass kicked by the girls . Then PDP (us instructors get a chance to take an advanced class when we don't get picked up for work), a very cool class with Bill-da-man who took us around the mountain ("today you've learned how to cut lines" ). .... then I end up hooking up with Kat & Analisa from Edâ??s house & show them Coops as well! (confused? - it was a busy "day")
Sunday nite, I have an interesting â??moment in timeâ?? experience â?¦ a friend of mine invites me for dinner in Rutland and I end up taking the bus out there. As Iâ??m traveling there, I end up talking to 20-somethings (aka internationals â?? seasonal workers that come from all over the world to work here in the winter time) from South Africa and Brasil. We are just talking bull, but for a minute I feel again, as I felt many times in my travels in Europe â?? as if Iâ??m in the â??neverlandâ?? â?? suspended time & place, where simple talk to sincere people is all that matters at that moment and time - bliss. I also see this Massachusetts guy trying to hook up with this tall, cute blond (life of 20-somethings ...). I get that same feeling again (bliss) next morning at 7am, when I join all the internationals on the way to work. Iâ??m having the funniest conversation with Juval about music, this guy whoâ??s trying to be her â??boyfriendâ?? (I reply to her friend â?? â??you mean heâ??s not sure if he wants to be yet?â??) â?? sheâ??s black, heâ??s white â?? not quite sure how the public would look at it â?? but he likes her --- buddy, donâ??t worry Iâ??ve been there . So, how do I end up on that bus in the morning? Ohh, yeah â?¦ friend, who told me to take the bus, tells me that the last bus leaves at 10pm, so just to be sure when I get there at 9pm, I ask the receptionist â??whatâ??s the last bus to leave here tonight?â?? â?? â??you just got off of itâ?? â?¦

So in the last minute, I was able to convince Luke to take off Friday and go to Vermont on thu night. All of this was caused by reports of major snow fall in Killington & earlier thu Kasia confirmed the downfall of 12 inches with another foot of snow expected. I was a bit sceptical, 'cause we didn't see snow until we hit Massachusetts. But once we did, I knew it was a brilliant idea to leave early this weekend.
Thursday night was looking uneventfull, until all of the sudden we lost electricity .... looking around the neighbros houses, we figured it must have been a local mini-blackout. What to do, but take a drive & visit Pickle Barrel - which was so empty, that we left 1/2 hour later.
Friday - The real paradise conditions occurred when we hit the Killington mountain next morning ... About 2 feet of fresh powder, not too many people. It seemed it couldnâ??t get any better until the sun came out in the afternoon Luke and the posse had to work sat morning so they had to leave the same day (yeah I know - crazy guys - i love them), so I invited Ania and Busi to our house. Marcelo also came with his friend Ditrich, so we were playing poker, drinking polish martinis and having fun.
Sat - the weather got only better. Although I had to work, I had a nice beginner class (7 people) and then my 1st private lesson. I was so beat that I end up falling asleep. We run out of gas for the bbq grill and although I had 3 drinks behind me I stupidly decided to drive ... Well life decided to teach me a lesson and I got stopped by the cops. Let me tell you last time my heart was beating that fast was when I was smuggling something through one of the european airports. "how many drinks have you had to drink tonight?" - he asked - "about 1 beer". So as calm as I was trying to stay, I knew I was in trouble. When the cop said "sir, please step out of the vehicle" - great, I'm getting arrested - I thought to myself. Well my heart didn't slow down when the cop run me through the sobriety test. By my stupid luck I passed it, but it was close ... Life gave a wake up call.
Sun - I had a nice advanced class with 4 brits and since they didn't really care to learn anything in particular, I just took them around the mountain and had fun on another perfect sunny day (we got another 6 inches nite before). In the afternoon I get stuck with Ivo (this funny instructor), who instead of making things easy â?¦. just complicates the â??chose of studentsâ?? (WTF???). Anyways, I end up with a nice group of 5 students, who end up turning after the lesson.
I can't believe how quick this weekend passed ... But it was simply powder paradise.
(ohh i fogot the camera, so those are the Luke's pics - he won't mind)

so me & ken go out on town ... guys nite out and it's fat tuesday baby! (carnival starts in New Orleans, so New Yorkers feel the need to celebrate with beads, hurrakanes, etc)
long story short, we meet this bartender smoking a cig outside of the bar we left a while ago. we get into this funny, i'm gay conversation - she doesn't buy it ("allthough your pants ..." she says ... "nah, you're not gay"). cool gilr, we're just joking, having fun. as soon as we actually walk in to the bar, she changes ... to a bartender - trying to sell us as many drinks as she can. i guess i shouldn't be suprised - it is her job, just sucks how people in this town change on you from "sincire" to "business, honey ...".
is nice & barteneder girls "would stip you naked if we were 10 years younger" (from your money) says someone .... so we have fun with IT in NYC .....
we basically have a fellas nite out & just drink ourselfs to state of no conciousness

Although I had to work hard this weekend (another 15, happy students), it was so hot on the mountain that i even didn't mind sweating!
2 gorgeous days of work & some free riding. Finally hooked up with some locals & did the Cooper's Cabin "visit" .... things changed a bit since last year in the Cabin ... medicine got heavier ... but the crowd is still good.
Funny stories from the weekend? Well, I finally managed to take Eddie with me. On the VIP ride up (we took his Yukon) back passengers were watching Aviator (yes it isn't on the DVD yet ) & I was driving - kinda disturbing - just reassured me that I will _never_ have a lcd screen up front in any car i own.
Sat - I though a lesson in the morning & in the afternoon - back to back discovery - tiring ... but it was a beautiful 43 degree weather & i was able to get Eddie into the 2nd class & ... he had fun - he actually was one of the better student in my class ...
in the evening we went to Charities to get something to eat & as much fun as we all had ... it took us about an hour to eat & ... about another hour to pay the friken bill ... for some strange reason we couldn't figure it quite right. To make things funnier, when we get home, we get a phone call from Meg - "you guys left me behind"
nite .... hanged out with some lifties in Rutland - cool, but chill (Busi, Ania, Pricilla, the crazy South African Chris - who spoke; English, 3 African languages & .... Polish! )
Sun - another sunny day - had to teach in the morning again (all returnees - I guess I did my job right in teaching another 15 bunch), but in the afternoon i skipped the line up & did few runs with Kasia & then did the red-neck / parking lot / bbq thingie - on the way back we "enjoyed" Baraka ... strange movie

wow what a weekend (thanks Sean! - you've inspierd me to take more photos & here they are ...).
Since my laptop crashed & the full story is hidden on it at the moment, here are the highlights:
- (it all starts with crazy email exchange about jello wrestling competition involving KY jelly & lawyers ....)
- crazy Friday nite at the pickle with _everyone_ absolutely getting trashed
- we meet Vinny in the parking lot at 2:30 am ....
- Marcelo insists on going home on top of Luke's car - "no!! I AM going on the top, dude!"
- Vera opens the can of woop ass for Marcelo
sat
- "who's that Herb that put his Audi in the ditch at the entrance to BloodShed (aka Snowshed) on Sat morning, for all to see ???" ... "oops that's our friend John ..."
- what a perfect day on the mountain ... real snow, beautiful conditions, sun .... we're not worthy!
- happy hour girl bondage ... & here John redeams himself - it was _his_ idea
- a guest from house next door gets undivided attention from the boys (Natalie put me to shame with her blunt comments
- I'm beeing rudly disturbed by Marcelo & couple of other voices at 11pm ..... (inside joke here)
- someone from our house got thrown out of the Pickle for ... sleeping on the dance floor ???? (John is back at the dog house)
Sun
- another gorgeous day on the snow, but most of the guest don't make it there .... due to excessive brain damage - new meaning do the term "dog pound" is born
BTW, unfortunately Sean's legal expertise didn't come in handy this weekend, but we all still had a blast.
